Alpha
Course: The Alpha Course is a highly successful and
fun program primarily aimed at people new to the Christian
faith, and people who are exploring faith. Originally started
in an Anglican Church in London, Alpha now runs in countries
all over the world and by churches in many denominations. St.
Andrew's ran its first Alpha course in the fall of 2005 and we
are running another course during March/April 2007.
Episcopal Church Women (ECW):
An active group in our parish that benefits both the
spiritual growth of its members and stewardship of talent and
monies that benefit both the parish as well as our community
outreach programs. Community beneficiaries of ECW
include a shelter for battered women and a local nursing home.
Kairos: A
multi-denominational program to bring Christianity to people
in prison through training of those prisoners who are in some
kind of leadership role to form and maintain small share and
prayer groups.
Urban ministries/Austin
Street: Located near downtown Dallas and run by
three Episcopal priests, the Austin Street Centre provides
accommodation for approximately 350 homeless men, women, and
children each night.
Our urban ministries team
visits Austin Street on the second Sunday of each month and
provide a meal to between 350-400 (or more) street
people. As well as our dedicated urban ministries team,
the parish as a whole provides several hundred
sandwiches each month as well as turkeys, hams, clothes, and
financial support. For
more information about this ministry at St. Andrew's:
Habitat for Humanity:
St. Andrew's participates in
a Habitat for Humanity work day each October. For details on our

Acolytes, lay
Eucharistic ministers, and lectors: These are members of the congregation
who participate in the church services on Sundays and at
special services. Acolytes are youth and adults who serve at
the altar . Lay Eucharistic ministers are members of the
congregation licensed by the Bishop to administer the wine
during Communion. Lectors read appointed scripture verses.
Altar guild: The
altar guild prepares the church for all services, ensuring
that the appropriate liturgical colors and linens are in
place, and decorates the church for festive seasons such
as Christmas and Easter.
Choir: Our
choir performs each Sunday, and on some
holy day services. The choir is always looking for new
members.
Prayer circle:
Requests for prayers are passed to the eleven members of the
prayer circle who faithfully pray for these requests each
day. This is a true circle, as the prayer request is
called to each member, who in turn calls the next person on
the list – the last person calls the first person to let
them know the request has gone full circle.
Sunday school:
Christian education is available
to youth and adults. For more information:
Ushers: Members
of the congregation who welcome people attending our services
and who participate in the services (e.g., collecting the offertory).
Vestry: The
committee of nine members elected by the parish to oversee the
management and finances of St. Andrew's.
Youth group: We
have a small but active youth group that meets for fun monthly
activities, such as lock-ins, pizza nights, retreats,
fund-raisers, and community outreach. For more information:
