What is a vestry?

The vestry is the leadership council of the parish, and is elected by the parish. We have nine vestry members, each of whom serve a three year term.

At our annual parish meeting each January, three vestry members are elected by the parish. Under the constitution and canons (laws) of the Diocese of Dallas, a vestry member may not run for re-election when his or her term expires. Instead, there must be a period of at least a year before a vestry member is eligible to run for vestry again.

Who can be a vestry member?

In order to be elected, candidates must be at least 18 years old, be a confirmed communicant in good standing, and must be a financial “contributor of record” to the parish.

Wardens

The senior warden is chosen by the rector and provides counsel and guidance to the rector. The junior warden is elected by the vestry and has responsibility for overseeing the physical property of the parish. Both the senior and junior warden must be vestry members.
